Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Repeated Intrathecal Administration of Gadolinium in Adult and Juvenile African Green Monkeys (AGM)
Intrathecal administration of gadolinium in African green monkeys (AGMs) provides a model to explore central nervous system (CNS) drug delivery. This study examines the precision and safety of repeated intrathecal gadolinium injections, a method used to enhance CNS imaging and assess drug distribution in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Using 3D T1 MRI sequences, this research tracks gadolinium distribution after lumbar intrathecal administration in both adult and juvenile AGMs. The results demonstrate consistent and reliable delivery to the spinal cord, with no adverse events observed following multiple injections.
This study highlights the effectiveness of percutaneous intrathecal injections using a specialized lumbar positioning device. Gadolinium administration was well tolerated by all subjects, offering a reproducible method for CNS imaging and drug delivery studies.
